For the fourth time, the Heineken Budapest Nightlife Awards was held, and the public vote ended at midnight on 8th May. We are hoping that you voted for us and we will be honored with another award!

This year in the Heineken-sponsored competition, it was possible to start in 13+1 categories (for example, the best bar, the best wine bar, the best concert venue, the best party organizer), of course, we entered in the best craft beer pub category. And from 8th April, you, our dear visitors, had the opportunity to bring us to the podium again, just as you did last year.

The results would have been announced on 15th May, but due to the bad weather the party at the Pontoon was postponed with almost a month, so now we will have to stay excited until 12th June. We will definitely let you know about the results!

Lunch at the Kandalló Pub

We are constantly improving to provide you with the best possible service and to enjoy yourself every time you visit us. One of the novelties is that we open every day at noon from May 15th for you to have the opportunity to grab some lunch if you are looking for a gourmet burger with a good beer. Of course, if you have to go back to work afterwards, replace the beer with a delicious homemade lemonade or syrup!

In summer, the extended terrace is waiting for you!

Another novelty is that we have replaced the old windows with fully open windows on the ground floor, so during the summer, we can finally provide the terrace experience!

The Six-Year-Old Kandalló in Forbes

We were honored to have been interviewed by Forbes Hungary for our sixth birthday. In the article, we detail how the idea of a craft brewery was born between six university friends in 2011, how we found the venue and why we completed our offer with a wide range of now award-winning burgers. You can also read about our development together with the pub, how we gained more experience in the hospitality industry, and how our team, as well as Kandalló itself, expanded. The article gives an insight into the need for perpetual financial investment in our development, with which we were able to expand our gallery and had the opportunity to create a unique beer fridge pantry ensuring the best craft beer to be offered from 16 beer taps every day of the year.

You can read about our successes, for instance, the Hungarian Street Food Awards and the Hungarian Kitchen, who have chosen our burger the best hamburger of Budapest. Also, we have received the title of Heineken Budapest Nightlife Awards’s best craft brewery. However, we are not hiding our failures either. For example, we are talking about Kandalló Garden or Kandalló Market on Hold Street, which both seemed like good ideas at the time, but unfortunately were not profitable enough, so we had to let them go.

In the article, we are also talking about how the owners have handed over tasks to the well-assembled team over the years. By now there are 20 colleagues working to make sure that you spend a perfect evening at us. Our beers on the tap are constantly changing, and our chef provides an ever-changing menu.

Kandalló Craft Beer Pub is among the Top 100 Hungarian Restaurants

On 25 February 2019, the TOP 10 Hungarian Restaurant as well as the Volkswagen-Dining Guide TOP100 Restaurant Guide were announced at the Restaurant of the Year Gala in the Castle Garden Bazaar. The TOP100 list was long-awaited by the enthusiastic visitors, and this year in the 100-point-system restaurants with over 74 points gained a place. In the guide, after the top list, you can find 110 more restaurants which did not reach the 74 points but still fall into the recommended category.

Each year we wait for the results in excitement and are curious about the upcoming restaurants. This year it was a big surprise to see that the first place went to a place opened only a year ago, but it towered above restaurants like Onyx or Borkonyha. For the Kandalló Pub, this year was extremely exciting because we were among the TOP100 restaurants, which is a great recognition in the profession. It is an honor for us since we are mainly known for our burgers and craft beer, not as a traditional or a fine dining restaurant.

The Volkswagen-Dining Guide is available at newsagents from 26 February.
